If you don't like the results, I haven't done my job.

I won the state championship in the 100 meters and went to Adams State College in Alamosa CO. Broke a leg in track and received withdrawn F across the board. Left college and healed up. Went to the Army two years and reserve three years. Came back and picked up the quickest degree possiable. Moved to Hawwaii, three years. Became a ciritified dept of defense government contractor. Furnish and deliver contracts. Ended up moving back home to Albuquerque NM. I started working in the Indian Casinos for 13 years. I bought a house and retired. But now I'm tired of sitting around.
All I do is tend to my students needs. I'm personal. Like to get off track with my students and lead them back to the point.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed working with children and helping to direct paths thru life. I get along with children very well and am very patient. Children like adults have their strong subjects and weak ones and my style is try to find the strong points of children. It is important at what point a student lost their way, go back and help them get past that point. I want to make a difference in this small amount of time I have on earth.
I received my BS degree in Communications in 1974 and passed my CBEST test in December, 2008. I have been tutoring for over 6 months assisting a student rewriting her term paper. I have also tutored my grandson and younger daughter in high school and college math. I decided to enter tutoring and teaching after realizing how important education is while using my communications ability.

My education in engineering (MS/BS), business (MBA) and liberal arts (BA) prepared me for a career in sales, marketing, engineering and finance. I worked for many years at IBM and other major companies. Now I am helping the next generation achieve their full potential by tutoring them in mathematics and the sciences. I have tutored my son in middle and high school and instructed people to develop their computer skills. My college course work included many biology and chemistry classes (organic and inorganic) that are required for environmental engineering specialties such as water quality and biological pollution treatment.
My primary teaching style is to facilitate a student's inherent thirst for knowledge. I use directed questions to help young students discover the best methods to reach the correct conclusion. I love to work with them as they find solutions and their own rea ... read more

Ever since, I was in undergraduate school, my passion for teaching, mentoring and helping disadvantageous students existed. I am first generation college student in my family and I understand how life in the school can be quite difficult for some and in order to teach them effectively, patient is the key. With my extensive knowledge in Science, I can provide student with more practical examples out from the book which will help them to understand better. My hope is to provide students with the same attention, patience, and care that some professors have been able to provide me. I have seen professors that teach effectively, but I have also seen how some teachers can be horrible due to selfish, impatient behavior. My experiences as a TA, teaching non-biology majors how to think like a biologist, can be a difficult task. It often deals with teaching students material that they do not think is important. A crucial aspect of teaching is not only adapting to the student's learning style, but also helping the student understand the value of learning.
Through my experiences at UCLA, I developed the desire to impact those around me through teaching. My ultimate goal is to become a professor so that I can give back to people just as previous professors have impacted me. A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher, I know not all children learn the same. I know I must bring many teaching strategies in order to meet my student’s needs. My focus is making sure I do meet my student's needs by any means. That is how they will have success with the tutoring process. I believe in using manipulative and pictures to teach students. Some children may be visual learners and need these items to make learning engaging and successful. Making the child's work area fun, comfortable and exciting can also help their learning experience to be a positive one. I will do my best to make their learning experience successful and positive.

More About This Tutor...

As a professor, I certainly want my students to learn the fundamental content of the courses I teach. But beyond that, my hopes and efforts are directed toward promoting critical thinking and facilitate the acquisition of skills to develop problem-solving strategies. As a scientist, I am curious about the nature of biological systems and I try to pass this curiosity to my students by sparking their excitement and showing them the relevance of the subject material. I have found that my most powerful tool as an educator is a personal enthusiasm for the topic or topics I teach. Once the students are enthusiastic about a topic, they become curious about it and questions are generated.

A Little Bit About Me...

I decided to become an educator once I realized how much my students like my approach, and teaching styles. I am firm, but at the same time flexible and easy going. I like to push them beyond their boundaries, but also to relax when they need it. The teaching styles depend on a student; it is absolutely necessary to adjust them to students’ needs and particular learning styles. The most important in tutoring is to be ready to change accordingly, based on child’s potential and abilities.
As a college professor and UCLA graduate, I am very eager to achieve excellence in teaching and leading young people towards their personal goals. Education is becoming much more important in our knowledge-driven society. It is my prerogative to put all my experience and education to insure students’ understanding of the material and developing necessary skills.
