Having attended higher learning institutions for over 6 years, my drive for more education is apparent. Throughout my experiences, not only have I been tutored, but have tutored my peers in mostly math and sciences. I have developed my speaking and writing abilities through my own employment experiences and feel that I have what it takes to teach and train individuals manual labor skills as well as mathmatical skills and abstract thinking and problem solving skills to help them understand concepts and apply them to a task.
I believe that people learn in different fashions. For example, I feel that some concepts may be better explained with tangible objects while other concepts are learned better when questioned and discussed. I believe that the purpose of tutoring is to help students help themselves, or to assist or guide them to the point at which they become an independent learner. I know that the content knowledge is an essential ingredient for a tutor; however, to be truly effective, i believe a tutor must combine content knowledge with empathy, honesty and humor. In addition I demonstrate a caring attitude. Caring consists of being organized for the tutoring session, being punctual and gaining the students trust.
I studied post secondary in high school and graduated in the top ten of my class. I was on the deans list every year of my college career. I was a teachers aid at the University of Minnesota for three years in the anatomy department. I was a the lead embalmer for the University and worked for the Anatomy bequest program.
