What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. Given the student a concept and allowing them to explore the possibilities of how one arrives at such a concept has allowed deeper critical thinking and strategic planning. However, this method is not predominately taught in Georgia education system. I have found this method to be very effective. The other method is patience. Students who strugge with their academic learning usually are having other areas of difficulty which may be social learning. Having clinical training allows me to make a more accurate assessment.
During the last 10 years I have worked with all levels of students, preschool through college levels. These areas include reading, math, english, psychology, science and social studies. I am a self starter and have worked wi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Tutoring has taught me that perseverance and patience are the keys to tackling tough situations, and I try to pass that along to others. I am very versatile when it comes to teaching various age groups. I try to keep my sessions exciting, but focused and instructional. I teach to each to the unique style of the individual student and when instructing a medium to large group, I adjust to the majority learning style;moreover,"no student is left behind."
It is my belief that I do not truly master subjects until I can teach it to others. Thus, I view tutoring as an essential component of the learning process. With respect to my tenure as a tutor in the community of Tuskegee, Alabama and on-campus,this has certainly been the case. From helping to ease students of their confusion in the laboratory, to leading review sessions in front of spacious lecture halls, my experiences as a tutor h ... read more

I also have a lot of work-related experience that allows me to teach fellow co-workers. From teaching new employees company accounting policies and procedures to updating current co-workers on newly implemented processes, I have attained a great deal of experience teaching and tutoring over the years.

I have always had a passion for teaching and, as such, enrolled in a three-year teacher education college in Jamaica where I earned an honorary diploma in the teaching of secondary English. Upon graduation from college I was employed by my alma mater where I taught students ranging between the ages of 12-18. I remained in this job until December 2008, when I resigned in order to migrate to the US. In addition to my formal teaching experience I also have extensive experience in tutoring. This, as not only have I been able to tutor friends and family members, but I have also done tutoring as a part time job, as well as in a volunteering capacity. I really do enjoy seeing people succeed and, as such, I know that I would do excellently in this capacity.
One of the most distinctive attributes of my teaching style is the fact that I believe in discovery learning. I firmly believe ... read more

I have chosen education as a career because I believe that education is perhaps the most important function performed in our culture, or for that matter, any culture. I believe that teachers individually and collectively can not only change the world, but improve it, and in the process find personal and professional renewal. I want to be part of this noble profession, and someday to be counted among those in whom future preservice teachers found inspiration.
In my experience as a tutor, I can definitely say that it is one of several enjoyable jobs that a college-graduate such as I can have. In my previous years volunteering as a Peer-Tutor, I certainly did an excellent job helping other students with their subjects especially in grasping the abstract concepts of Mathematics. Out of all the subjects I've tutored in the past, Mathematics seems to be the one that most students struggl ... read more

My teaching style is to lead by example. Being that I am a visual learning I try to work in steps showing them what is expected and them I allow them to slowly work it out themselves based off of what I've done. I've done a lot of teaching to children with Autism and our teaching style varied to fit the way the child was able to learn. I also took Educational Psychology in graduate school and learned the meaning of intentional teaching, which is teaching with the intent of having the student learn what you are teaching.
