A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught for 5 years now and have taught middle school math, language arts and social studies. I have also concentrated in the area of special education in regards to my teaching experiences. I have taught at both the middle school and high school level. While I was working on my teaching certificated, I volunteered much of my time in elementary schools.

My experience with Special Education has taught me that all children can learn and be successful in academic activities. Some children need explicit instruction and other children need to create their own meaning from academic information. I believe that children need to be invested and interested in the academic material in order to learn. I enjoy working with children and helping them become successful. Most of my professional career has involved working with Special Needs individuals: 3 years directing, teaching and training in a community skill center, and a thriftstore; 14 years as Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor helping teenagers and adults obtain job training and/or schooling and job placement on a case by case basis; and then, the last 4 years as a special education teacher; the first year was as an elementary school substitute, and the last 3 was teaching Junior High English (written language) and Reading.
