My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I have experience working with these students. I have learned that I must keep some characteristics in mind. I must establish a rapport with the student. I must keep tutoring sessions short allowing for breaks if needed. I must avoid distractions during the sessions. I also find it helpful and amust to communicate with the teachers to know what assignments are due and when and test dates and the material to be tested on.

I'm known for my patience working with students with foreign-language backgrounds and other disabilities such as a lack of attention and focus. I learned from my professors at Swarthmore College (and a few at Penn) how to project a non-B.S. style, since kids tend to intuitively realize when their teacher has no idea what he/she is talking about. I was born into a Christian farm family in Hartford, Alabama, in 1952. After earning a B. S. in Special Education from the University of Alabama and a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology and Counseling from Tennessee Technological University, I taught special education classes at North Middle School in Lenoir City, Tennessee, for nine years before moving back home to take care of my parents. This is my 12th year at Enterprise High School and I am very fortunate to be the teacher of the multi-needs Special Education classroom there.
