Elementary Math is one of my top subjects! I enjoy math and am able to help students not only learn the basics but to enjoy it as well.

I have worked with children and teens all my life. I was a camp counselor at a YMCA camp for 6 summers in my teens and early 20s. I taught 5th grade my first year (class of 36 students!) and then taught 3rd grade for a year, 2nd grade for three years, and 4th grade for three years--all in public schools. Then I taught English at the middle school level for four years in a private school. After that I subbed and tutored for a year until I was hired to teach in a K-8 building at the 8th grade level. I taught there for nearly 20 years before I retired, teaching science, pre-algebra, and communication arts (English, reading, vocabulary, writing, grammar, and spelling.) While in that position, I was the sponsor of the science fair, building-wide, for nearly ten years. Since retirement, I have subbed, tutored, have written and published a book, and am writing a daily blog.

Elementary Math is one of my top subjects! I have a very strong background in math and taught elementary school math for over 15 years. I have helped many students in grades 1-8 succeed in this sometimes overwhelming subject. I always teach my students real life applications for the math they are learning, including consumer math. I make math fun and relevant and have had much success teaching elementary school students not only do well in school, but actually enjoy math!

I have taught for many decades and use a variety of teaching styles since all students learn differently. I am more of a 'traditional' style teacher, realizing that the basics are vital. My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : I believe in a hands-on approach to learning math as well as incorporating games to learn the skills. I believe in an approach that says, "I haven't learned math, YET."
