My experience working with children is in the area of those with mental health issues, most of which have learning disabilities as well. I love my work and I love children. I believe that all children can learn when you consider what kind of learner they are. I believe that most children have to experience learning through many facets; hearing, touching, seeing and discovery. I also believe that children need to be empowered to learn so that through daily activity their confidence and self-esteem is cultivated, nurtured so that potential can be met and possibly exceeded. I feel that I can always learn something new everyday. I always wanted to teach but didn’t originally go that route. I have a BA in Speech Communications. I then went on to take some Sign language classes, but never felt complete. After about 5 years, I decided to follow my heart and go back to school and get a Teacher of the Handicapped Certification. I have had many experiences with a variety of disabilities including Hand in Hand, Special Olympics and teaching children with various disabilities in a classroom and one on one setting. I also have a K-5 regular education certification. I am a substitute teacher for all grades as well as a home instructor. I have been teaching for 5 years in a private school. I have taught Mathematics, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies.
