A Little Bit About Me...

I love to listen to what kids have to say. My teaching style is to ask a lot of questions in the attempt to get the kids to give the answers back to me. I think that it is more powerful for kids to come up with the answers themselves than to regurgitate what I have told them. I try to ask leading questions and get kids interested in the subjects that they are being taught, using teachable moments to play off of things that they are already excited about. I think that patience and giving them choices and opportunities to teach help empower children and give them a drive to learn.
I grew up as a member of CampFire boys and girls, now CampFire USA, and have been attending and working at their summer camps for the last 18 years of my life. I believe that all students can be successful, it's just a matter of finding the right lever to make education enjoyable and relevant in their own lives. I successfully use cross-ciriculum education in order to teach students at a higher level of Bloom's, thus insuring greater retention rates. I use scaffolding to build upon prior knowledge in order to keep new information relevant to the student.
