After earning a bachelor's degreee in Psychology and receiving my Elementary Education certification at Gonzaga University in 2007, I worked at Mario Umana Middle School Academy teaching environmental education in Boston. I currently work as a teacher's assistant in a Supported Learning Center program for students with Asperger’s Syndrome. I work one-on-one with high school students in the program, assisting them with work in math, science, English and social studies. Additionally, when I was in high school, I worked as a math tutor for algebra students. I find that many of the problems that students have with mathematics are not a result of an inability to understand the subject, but an inability to grasp the material as presented by the teacher, and a resulting disinterest. I like to spend the first couple of meetings with the student assessing how they learn best and giving them some tricks that lead to success in an area that has given them a lot of trouble. Through their success, we can build interest in the subject, and through understanding their learning patterns, we can present the material in a way that makes sense to them. The result of this method is that the subject becomes easier for the student to understand, and the applications make it more interesting to the student.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching since 2005, and doing one-on-one tutoring for just as long. I graduated with a BA in Anthropology, and an MA in Philosophy and Religion. Most of my teaching has been with children ages 10-14, though I have experience with everyone from Kindergarten to College. During my Masters, I wrote my thesis on the Philosophy of Science, and studied Ancient Archaeology in depth during my undergraduate years. I write fiction in my spare time, and have extensive experience with research and term papers.
