Hands-On Learning

I love to interact with children. I believe that children should be involved with their school work. Hands on work and visual interactions help when certain curriculums don't sink in. Involving children to learn, beyond taking notes, helps them understand difficult subject and also helps them retain them better to memory.

I have worked with preschoolers and children K-8. Furthermore, I have tutored in Reading Comprehension, Math, Writing Skills, and Spanish. I have worked as an Office Manager, where I used Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Data Entry programs. When I entered college I was immediately drawn to tutor my peers as needed. I worked with the single mom's program at IVC and also did job coaching for the City of Long Beach Disabled program. Once I graduated from college I had the opportunity to join the Boys & Girls Clubs, specifically designing educational and technology programs. I enjoyed tutoring about 50 youth a day. As a result some parents requested that I run a special off hours program at their middle school to tutor the ADHD kids. Every child in that program raised their grades 60% over the course of the semester. After having both tutored and taught in the classroom, I find tutoring to be more enjoyable. Since each student learns in a different way it is much easier to teach them one-on-one than a whole classroom full. I’ve always enjoyed watching their faces light up when they figure out a problem for the first time.
