I enjoy tutoring because I find it rewarding to build relationships with students and observe their progress. I recognize that it is crucial to build rapport with students in order to gain their trust and respect, and as a result, I try to discover my students’ goals and interests. Once a student realizes that I genuinely care about her success, she is more likely to work hard and obey my instructions. In addition, I am a patient individual, which is a useful quality to have when one is having difficulty getting a student to comprehend a particular concept. I have been in the field of education for approximately 14 years of which the last 8 years have been special education. I have worked with students of all ages, on all skill levels and many with learning disabilities through 8th grade. I was a high school art teacher for two years and I worked in a college library for four years. I am able and willing to work with students of all ages. My emphasis has been the field of language arts; however, I taught middle school math for students with learning disabilities for two years.
