I have worked with youth in several settings from bedside tutor to lead English and Special Education teacher positions for the past 5 years. I tutored at bedside in Riley Childrens in 2007 and by 2008 I was working as an after school counselor in Indianapolis. I went on to proctor tests for students with special needs and new language learners at IUPUI in 2010. I had teacher observation experiences at George Washinton Community School, Crispis Attucks Middle School and Lawrence Central High School. My student teaching experience was 16 weeks of full time lead teaching which gave me all the responsibilities and authority of the teacher. For this experience, I taught general education English at Howe Academy followed by teaching both Inclusion English and Life Skills classes at Short Risge. A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching children is a passion of mine. All children are different, therefore they learn in many ways. I believe it is essential to include various activities in the classroom that allow students to gain knowledge and information they need. I believe that integrating technology, music, dance, and physical activities help students learn. Using manipulatives and hands-on activities will allow students to not only learn the material, but discover that learning is fun! I believe that with positive classrooms and encouragement, all children will find joy in learning and reach their potential. With each student I come into contact with, I make it a point to help them become life long learners and apply what they’ve learned to their everyday life.

More About This Tutor...

Having two wonderful elementary teachers, I was inspired to become a teacher. I graduated in 1988 with an Elementary Education degree. I began my career as a teacher's aide but soon decided to be a stay-at-home mom to my two children. In 1994, I began to home teach my three children. I graduated my youngest in 2008. In 2004, I substitute taught for two local school districts. In spring 2008 I renewed my teaching license. I received my first teaching job at a Christian school in Indianapolis where I taught first grade. The school downsized so I resigned allowing the tenured teachers to keep their jobs. (I was the last hired, therefore would have been the first to go). Since that time, I have been a substitute teacher and a tutor.
I love teaching. I care deeply for my students and their individual learning needs. I am able to combine an inviting learning environment with good discip ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked at LearningRX as a cognitive skills trainer where I worked with students who were having difficulty in school and I was able to find their areas of difficulty and help build those areas up while also helping with their memory, visual acuity, and processing speed.
I like to have a relationship with the students I tutored where they feel comfortable with me; I want them to be able to tell me the problems they're having with the work and what I can do to help. I like to be friendly with them while still being an authority figure where they want to do their best. I think this type of relationship allows me to push the students to their maximum limit without discouraging them when we're having a difficult session.

A Little Bit About Me...

A good education is most important for a child to succeed in today's world. Children have different personalities, interests, and learning styles. They come from different backgrounds, cultures, and family value systems. All these differences need to be considered in planning the student's education. Schools today offer more than just the traditional learning style. Today's schools offer career centers, high school universities, special education, night schools, and specialized alternative education programs. Each student should be able to succeed given the course of direction to achieve his educational goals. We are there to help students succeed by offering them guidance, support and encouragement to reach their dream.

I love assisting children and young adults and seeing them advance in their learning skills. Your child's success is my primary objective. Helping them understand how they learn and developing their own learning style is the goal. There is not a child who cannot learn given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. I will make a difference in the lives of the children with whom I work.
As a graduate assistant, I was effective at assisting students in understanding complex material in Speech Communications. My focus is always on the student, attempting to understand how that particular individual learns. Once I have an understanding of a person's learning style, I then hone in to help the student progress in the area of study. Through writing research papers, business plans, markerting plans, websites, I have developed advanced grammatical skills.

The most important thing to me is making sure each child is able to learn in a manner in which they feel comfortable. Each person's learning style is as unique as the individual themselves. So, I like to get input from the student as to how they would like lesson plans and exercises to be implemented. I don't believe that there are children who can't reach their fullest potential as long as there is a teacher who is willing to put in the extra measures that are necessary.
Due to my undergraduate experiences at NCAT, I was able to develop new skills while enhancing the ones that I already possessed. While at A&T, I earned a degree in African American studies, in which I learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing graduate level research papers.
