Helping students to Become Life Long Learners

I enjoy working with students and am comfortable to go at their own pace. I encourage students and help them to succeed. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching in different areas and capacities for three years now. I started by teaching English to Korean students in Daegu, South Korea. Here I taught all different skill levels and ages. When I returned to the United States I began working at Sylvan Learning Center. I was responsible for running the center. Here I was trained in many of the Sylvan Learning methodologies and feel very comfortable in identifying obstacles that hinder a students progression. When you learn to play the piano, first you are taught the scales, which you practice over and over and over again. Then you learn pieces of music, with specific counts and phrasing. Finally, once you have all the rules in your back pocket, you can evolve into a jazz artist who seemingly leaves the rules behind. It is the same with language. You first learn and practice the basic components – reading, vocabulary, grammar, usage, three-paragraph themes, etc. Then you find yourself able to experiment with word choice and metaphor.
