I have taught grade three for four years. I have taught fifth grade for five years. I have worked as a special education teacher in a moderate-to-severe special day class for two years. I have substitute taught for two years in grades k-12. I am currently an adjunct ESL teacher for a junior college and have taught pre-level I for two years and levels I and II for two years. I received a BA in both English and Elem Education at Assumption College in Worcester MA. This has allowed me to qualify teaching at the Elem level, and also teaching English at the jr high and highschool level.I became a substitite for Gilford High right out of college. I worked as an eighth grade long term substitute for Math, Science and Social Studies for 5 months. Upon the teacher returning, I then worked as a 7th grade paraprofessional until we moved to Bakersfield, where I now have taught secod grade for the past two years at Carden School.I have worked with many different grade levels. Teaching-tutoring has always been an avocation rather than my vocation. I have some spare evening time and would like to continue to tutor.
My teaching style is to get my students involved in the English process; from grammar to vocabulary to basic syntax, I try to make my classes fun and interesting as well as productive. English has always excited me and I want my students to be excited as well. I am often amazed at how a student's skill level improves when a teacher brings an element of fun to a classroom. A good example is having my students each bring a vocabulary word to class that they have recently heard or seen and try to "stump the teacher".
