A Little Bit About Me...

I worked for over twenty years as a dental assistant. I worked closley with the children and really liked it.I then decided to return to college to earn a teaching degree. While I was working and going to college, I also had a family. I was and am very involved with their activities. Therefore I also have been a Girl scout leader, a volleyball score keeper, a little league team mom,score book , a band booster,concession stand worker, a volunteer class reader, room mom, etc!
I am a people person. I love to be with children and have four grown children. I have worked in a wide range of business and educational settings and have worked with students from grade school to adult. When I earned my BS in English, with a thirty credit business minor, I already had fifteen years experience working in a family run retail store. I have since worked a range of jobs including teaching business, computer and English classes. I also worked as a computer systems installer, service manager and office manager. I bring to my teaching a wide range of experience combined with a strong understanding of my subject areas.
As a teacher I believe that students learn best by doing, so I plan my lessons to engage students with meaningful activities that are mastered with hands on activity rather than teacher lead discussion.

Since my years as an undergraduate student, one of my passions has always been giving back to the community through tutoring and mentoring. Over the past eleven years, I have tutored countless times, particularly in research paper and essay writing (in various disciplines), literature, and even mathematics. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education and seek to continue giving back in this way!
