As a parent of middle school students, I understand the importance of motivating students by using real world examples and providing hands-on experiences. I enjoy working one-one-one with students, learning their strengths, and using those to have fun and make meaningful progress on the curriculum. Because of my professional background, I believe in basing study on solid principles such as methodology, repetition, and use of the scientific method to help the student retain the concepts in the long term. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with a student until I see the "light bulb" come on. Because people are individuals, I realize that the same approach will not work with every student. In general, however, it is helpful to take something that the student already knows, and to work from there to those concepts that they do not know. This approach provides a solid reference point for memory and understanding. Patience is a key, and realizing that the length of time required to learn a concept is not an indication of intelligence. I strive to maintain the dignity of the student I tutor in my demeanor to them, treating them as my comrades, my fellow learners, as opposed to my subordinates.

I really enjoy, generally speaking, helping people, but mainly help them pursue a future degree for themselves and a better life. I keep telling to my students that they should erase the "math fear" and that everything is easy if one understands it.
