My comments on tutoring Drawing : I like to encourage my students to challenge themselves creatively and draw their own designs that they are going to paint. However, traditionally Decorative Painters use patterns to lay down their design and we have numerous books and patterns for students to choose from at the studio so NO DRAWING SKILLS ARE NECESSARY in any of my classes or workshops.

I have 27 years of painting and teaching experience. I am an Assistant Professor at MCC whre I teach in Health Education. I have taught in numerous places and with numerous populations including at BOCES, Penfield and Perinton Recreation Dept's, Michaels Crafts, Catholic Family Center, and currently at my own studio (Hope In Art Studio, Frpt NY).
I am a relaxed teacher. I love to help student's explore what they'd like to learn or paint. I offer as much or as little direction as a student needs. I like to challenge my students to paint works that may be just a bit beyond what they think they are capable of because they always surprise themselves. Painting is nourishing. It is a privilege to teach and watch how it enriches lives!

A Little Bit About Me...

I recently earned a BS in studio art and my interests extend into math, sciences, and reading. This desire for knowledge spurred me to begin a second major in chemistry, enabling me to continue my math and science courses. Additionally I have an associates degree in graphic design. Throughout my job positions I have mentored and tutored new coworkers to bring them up to speed on business/IT systems. I have written technical documentation and test cases for 7 years. While working with children in the high school in Brooklyn I have come up with a particular way for a student to become engaged in his work and to perform well. When a student has a question about a certain problem I usually perform the solution while he or she is looking. I then try it again with perhaps a different problem. After this, I let the student give it a try with myself making comments if they have a problem. This might have to occur another time but essentially the next step is to have the student complete a problem without the aide coming from me.
