I have taught mathematics in grades 3 through college. I especially enjoy working with high school students and college algebra and trigonometry students. Since my retirement from college teaching I have been tutoring at Sylvan Learning, teaching some grade school math, algebra, geometry and ACT prep.
I especially enjoy working one-on-one with students because I am able to concentrate on his/her weaknesses. I like to use manipulatives and concrete examples whenever possible. After introducing a concept I work out examples with the student, then have him/her work through several examples while I watch and, finally, have the student work independently on a set of problems. If there are still errors I try to approach the concept from a different perspective and then repeat the process.

Teaching is my passion. My teaching style is to first evaluate the extent of the student's knowledge in the specific subject area and then start from the beginning and brush up, filling the gaps in knowledge. I work quite well with non-traditional learners and use props when I need to. Sometimes I find that this is the best approach for visual learners. I always look for alternative ways to teach a subject, if I need to. There is, after all, more than one route to the market.
My Ivy league graduate engineering degree and two bachelors degrees( Computer Engineering, Chemistry) demonstrate my strong mathematics and science skills. With more than nine years of business experience in both Finance and Operations management and five years as a homemaker raising my four children, I have a very diverse level of experience which I will provide as a tutor. I have developed a complete battery of skills in English, Business, Mathematics and Social Sciences. I have always had a strong appreciation for education and learning new things. My educational experience was strengthened when I attended Cornell College, which has a strong liberal arts program. I immediately took an interest in the sciences and pursued a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Pre-medicine. My education was additionally complimented when I immersed myself in several language, mathematic, English, and humanity courses, which gave me a strong diversity in the liberal arts curriculum.
