A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all children learn differently, and if each child identifies the way they learn most effectively, they will be much more successful in their studies. I think it is important to have purposeful learning- give children a real-life understanding of the information they're learning so that it will stay with them in the future. I live by the motto "if you make a difference in one person's life, you've done your job." I hope to help prepare your child for the future by helping them be the best they can now. I love helping others and making learning fun!
I have one year of experience teaching children. This experience was teaching a nutrition and wellness program designed by Fargo Cass Public Health to elementary age children. I have a BS in Community Health Education, which has given me the skills to design, implement, and deliver many lessons on health-related topics. As ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

During college, I discovered how much I truly enjoyed learning, and that drove me to take every elective course I could fit into my class schedule. I hold a BA in Biology, with a minor in Spanish. I also participated extensively in the music program as a pianist, participating in recitals, accompanying soloists & groups, and teaching piano lessons.
I truly enjoy helping others learn, and enjoy the challenge of finding the best way to help them learn. I have a patient, friendly, outgoing attitude & have worked with students from age 7-17.

I see my job as that of facilitator: the student is there, the information is there, and the student is the learner. I'm just there to guide, explain, provide details, clarify, relate new information to existing knowledge, etc. The student has to be "in charge," so to speak. I can't force knowledge into someone's mind, it has to be learned, but I can help make that information real and relevant to provide the motivation to learn. I'm very attentive to affective factors (stress, irrelevance, animosity, etc.) that can impede learning, and I strive to provide a learning environment that will foster a love of learning and scholarship. I want to make a difference in the lives of our youth and provide them with the tools and opportunities to succeed.
During my time at Concordia College, I was a strong tutor and office manager for the Reading/Writing Center, helping with composition i ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

When I began my college education I declared pre-med as my course of study. Unfortunately, since I had to work to put myself through school, I became burned out my the countless hours of work. When I was no longer having fun in school, I decided to switch majors and declared History. History can be very interesting coursework and also allowed flexibility in further education if I decided to persure more higher education.
I try to utilize many different styles of teaching methods as everybody learns information differently. I believe that one will learn more quickly if they are able to do the task themselves rather then watch the task be done. I also believe that we all learn through our own mistakes much faster then trying to learn from anothers mistake.

After earning my B.S. degree in Food and Nutrition Science, I was able to experience the use of science and mathematics in basic research, government service, and private industry. With this practical application of the sciences and math I understand the need of a student to grasp the basic concepts and principles in order to build an intellectual foundation. This foundation allows the student to progress to the level of understanding that is needed for success. I also believe that incorporating the use of computers along with the scientific theories gives the student the ability to expand their knowledge.
As all students are individuals, the goal of the personal tutor is to detect what type of learning experience allows the individual student to best fulfill their potential. When the correct learning approach is found, the tutor can fully benefit the student. All students will res ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As an Elem. Education teacher...I've have grea opportunities to work in a variety of settings and work with many families and their children. My emphasis is in the lower grade, and Early Childhood---BUT enjoy grealy working with grade 4-6 as well. I have expensive patience when it comes to working with students who "need the extra help". I haven't had SPECIFIC tutoring experience but working with students one-on-one from a variety of grades have allowed great experiences. I do have a high interest in math...along with reading (because of my Title I credentials in the Math/Reading areas). I would love to have the opportunity to share my skills with students that need them!!
I do believe that all children learn differently and my FIRST goal is to find out how that child learns best and go around the child's needs---not expecting the child to learn how I teach and limit that chil ... read more

I have homeschooled my son, who has ADHD and doesn't take medication, from Kindergarted to 6th grade. He is now in school and is a virtually an A student. I can teach just about any subject, even subjects I do not have an education in, for example, the last two years, my son had a desire to learn Latin, so I taught him Latin as I learned it myself. I really enjoy awakening a child's passion for reading and writing. I enjoy teaching kids who are have different learning styles.
I beleive that all students have a unique learning style, and that a good teacher can figure out how to reach a student. If a student does not understand a subject or concept, I employ different methods (visual, hands-on, abstract, manipulatives) etc. I am extremly patient, and don't believe that students are smart or dumb, I believe all students can learn equally well,if their strengths are tapped.

More About This Tutor...

I greatly love teaching and anything that enables a child to feel proud about themselves in a positive manner. I believe that there is not one teaching style available to all students. I feel that to truly become an effective teaching, one must get to know each student individually to find out their likes and dislikes. I am an extremely patient person with a huge heart and love for children. I will do everything in my power to enable each child to succeed. I believe that children need to have fun at times in order to learn. I strive to give each child their own tool that is tailored to him/her in order to succeed.
As a graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Education, I have a great diverse experience with children and families. I have volunteered my education experience and worked at many places including preschools, kindergarten centers, elementary schools, middle schools, hi ... read more
