English Language Teacher/Tutor

I have taught ESL for 12 years and high school English for 2 years in public schools. I tutored my first subjects many years ago while in college when I tutored Composition I and II, Poetry, and Psychology. I have since tutored many hours in English-related areas. I specialize in English as a Second Language and have taught students from all around the world at a variety of proficiency levels. I have teaching licenses in multiple subjects in ND and MN and have a Master's degree in Teaching.
I believe learning should be fun. I also think its perfectly okay to make mistakes and know that we all do! I try to make all students feel at ease around me and we usually find ourselves laughing as we learn. I assess your skill levels in multiple areas and gear my lessons to your needs. A Little Bit About Me...

Every kid is different in their own special way. You need different tactics per different kid. Being that I am patient and caring I know that it wouldn't take long for them to get comfortable with me and have me assist them. I believe that every good deed should be rewarded and if the student is doing well he shall be treated so, with a possible treat or even a pat on the back. I feel that if a child is told what they are doing right rather than what they are doing wrong they are more likely to have a positive outlook on what task they are trying to accomplish.
As a young college student I understand that my experience doesn't compare to those with degrees and much time doing it. I have homeschooled my son, who has ADHD and doesn't take medication, from Kindergarted to 6th grade. He is now in school and is a virtually an A student. I can teach just about any subject, even subjects I do not have an education in, for example, the last two years, my son had a desire to learn Latin, so I taught him Latin as I learned it myself. I really enjoy awakening a child's passion for reading and writing. I enjoy teaching kids who are have different learning styles.
I beleive that all students have a unique learning style, and that a good teacher can figure out how to reach a student. If a student does not understand a subject or concept, I employ different methods (visual, hands-on, abstract, manipulatives) etc. I am extremly patient, and don't believe that students are smart or dumb, I believe all students can learn equally well,if their strengths are tapped.

I have had a variety of work experiences in the past ranging from resident assistant, teacher, counselor, and multicultural tutor.
