I try to alleviate math anxiety, and introduce thoughtfulness as a way to solve problems. I teach how to understand math rather than just mimicking the behavior of the teacher. Math is about putting two and two together more than it is about learning how to add and subtract. If you would like to contact me it's probably best to call or text me as I may not see messages on here. 704 300 1027
I've been teaching college and high school level mathematics for over 6 years. I have been tutoring math and sciences over a decade. I've worked as a Statistician private contractor for about a year for Hospira and Partners BHM, and I worked in math education software design for about a year as a content editor and tester.

My comments on tutoring Physics : Took Newtonian physics and electro-magnetic physics (calc based, however algebraic expressions can be derived from calculus therefore well experienced in the algebraic physics as well.)

I like students to understand how the material they are learning can and is being applied to everyday situations. So I often will talk about the big topics that have been covered explain why they are useful and then show the student how to perform various calculations or apply the nessecary logic to solve problems.

My approach is to establish a relationship with small talk and introductions. A parent must be present at all times. I will keep up with the child's work load in the respective subject and also be in contact with their teacher. But my inital style will be repetition, which I found to be most productive during my time in the military. However, I realize that there many different methods to teaching. I will offer as many tools or resources that are needed to assist the child in learning the subject matter. And I will search continually to find the best method for the child and subject that we will study.
My background includes 25 years in upholstery manufacturing and also honorable military experience. I have worked for many years to complete my degrees, and they are very valuable to me. My skills include computer proficiency, grammar, math, and communication. I pride myself in havin ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have worked and volunteered to teach or tutor students in academic and physical training. I understand both the desire to learn and the resistance to it having three of my own sons. I have taught English in China, tutored Math for middle school students, Math, Chemistry, and Physics for high school and college, and programming for college level. I have substituted for college business class in quantitative methods. I offer the student a very practical understanding of why to learn.
Teaching style depends on the subject, the type of material, and the student’s level and ability. The goal is to inspire a student to learn the study skills necessary to excel on their own. In a tutoring situation there is usually the immediate need (to pass a test) and the long term need to be able to succeed on their own. I try to balance these two goals but the guidance of the parents is most ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Attending and graduating from Davidson College, a small liberal arts college in NC, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry was an extremely rewarding experience. I found that the college groomed their students by emphasizing analytical skills--both scientific and literary--and giving back to the community through both service and volunteerism. As a college student, I tutored students in mathematics courses up to Multivariable Calculus and chemistry students up to Organic Chemistry. I have also taught beginning Math, Reading, and SAT Preparation at a local learning center in Atlanta as well, in addition to my experience teaching and tutoring AP Chemistry as a high school teacher.
I find nothing more exciting and rewarding than teaching a topic or subject to an individual and seeing the expression and excitement on their face when they truly begin to understand the materia ... read more

As a senior at Winston-Salem State University, I have strived for high academics in the Biological sciences. I will be graduating with my Bachelors of Science in Biology/Chemistry in June 2012. Throughout my journey through college I’ve learned successful strategies in science and mathematics that could help others. I have gained eight months experience tutoring other students in basic science and basic mathematics throughout their freshmen year and would love to continue assisting others. I have even assisted my peers with scientific laboratory reports and English research papers over the course of my undergraduate degree. I look forward to helping you.
I personally enjoy when teachers draw pictures or diagram examples to clarify complicated topics so I have adapted an active tutoring form. It involves the student to explain and participate in my session to properly get the h ... read more

In 2002 I graduated with a degree in biotechnology. During the last semester of school, I was a substitute teacher, where I learned a lot about children and different teaching styles. After graduation, I pursued a career as a chemist, but I always maintained a second part-time job teaching, in some fashion. Usually, that teaching involved a pool. I have been a swimming lesson instructor for 10 years and have been a YMCA swim coach for 3 seasons, coaching over 200 children per year. In these opportunities, I've learned a lot about interacting with children. I am also a trainer for my coworkers and new employees who join our team. Throughout High School and College, I excelled in Math and Science, and use many of the concepts that I learned each day in the laboratory.
I believe that each child learns in a different way, and as a teacher it is my challenge and duty to teach in s ... read more

I have 7 years experience as a professional Museum Science Educator, and several years of informal tutoring experience. As Senior Science Educator at the South Florida Science Museum, I regularly developed new programs and curriculum in a variety of sciences, and taught thousands of students of all ages and backgrounds in hundreds of schools and classrooms throughout South Florida. I have also delivered several Adult Lectures and credited Teacher In-Services. I have professionally instructed Palm Beach County Middle and High School teachers in both Paleontology and Archaeology. I have informally tutored college students in basic Spanish as well as in writing research papers. As of right now I do not have my teaching certicifate, however, I do plan on going back to school to get my certificate. When I was tutoring I had to multi-task between students. At first, the task was difficult but I eventually got used to it.
While I was an undergraduate at Marshall University, I was asked by my thesis professor to help out in the tutoring center provided by the college of math. While I was there I helped students with their math courses ranging from college algebra to upper levels of calculus and differential equations. Being a learning disabled student myself, I have learned that not all students retain information the same. I feel this gives me an upper hand on techniques to get students to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a daughter in the 8th grade and a son in the 6th. I have home schooled them the past 9 years. They have very different learning styles which has helped me to learn to teach in different ways to accommodate their needs. I am patient and easy going and I love helping kids.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. I have very strong math skills, especially in Algebra, which is what my daughter is learning now. I excelled in grammar, art, health, and science as well. I was a teacher at a private school for a year after college before I started a family and began home schooling. My daughter is now in the 8th grade and tests at the college level in reading and high school levels at most other subjects.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe everyone can do mathematics. It just has to be explained to the student in a way so that he can relate to it. I believe in presenting the material in several different ways so that it can be understood. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with other people and would like to help your child excel in math and science.
I do not have current experience teaching or tutoring for pay. I did some tutoring of high school students and fellow classmates while I was in college. Since then, I have been the "go-to" person in my family for help with math and science. I tutored one of my sisters in her classes at St Charles Community College. She graduated with an Associates degree in AutoCAD last year. I helped her with all her cad, math, physics, and engineering classes. From 2002 thru 2008, I tutored one of my nieces through her junior high and high school math and science classes. I feel th ... read more
