I have had experience tutoring and teaching Algebra I and II from a being a teacher. I feel very comfortable with all types of math. I have worked in small and large group environments to one-on-one. From the engineering background, I have insight into real world uses for math. While working as an engineer, I taught skiing and group fitness class, two very diverse groups of people to work with. I recently graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Human Development. However, before Human Development was my major, it was English Language. Through my four years at a major university, I have learned how to properly write research essays, what sources are credible for essays, and essay format. I also have had a pet-peeve for words that are incorrecly spelled and when there are grammatical errors in something professionally done.
I believe that children all come with different levels of cognition. Therefore, each child has their own learning pace. I like to give a child the time that he needs in order to accomplish his goal in learning. I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Brigham Young University with a 3.95 GPA in my math courses. I was top of my class in all my math classes and regularly tutored my classmates on the homework assignments. I also was in the mathematics graduate program for a year and a half. I did my internship at Springville High School and Dixon Middle School. At Dixon I was selected to help teach adults about the computer. I have 9 children. I was able to teach each of them. Some of them have gone on to higher education and have scholarships. I still have some at home and enjoy teaching them.
I like the tutoring environment because I like seeing individual progress. It is easier to assess where the child is. I believe that the basics are essential to moving forward in education. Memorization of math facts makes it easier for a child to learn new material because he isn't bogged down. I don't believe enough emphasis is placed on arithmetic in today's schools.
