I've always been a highly focused and disciplined individual in regards to academics; ever since high school I've taken a serious liking to chemistry and math, not only because of their importance in daily life but also for the mental challenges they pose. During my time at the Hazleton campus of Penn State University, I had the opportunity to tutor other students in these two subjects. I was well-rounded by the time I finished my ChE degree, having gained valuable experience from using computer software, writing lab reports, and collaborating with others on research projects. I enjoy working with students of all ages, although most of my experience has been with middle school age and older. I use a couple of different techniques to help students understand math, including using visual aides, problem solving techniques, role reversal (where they explain a lesson to me), blackboard/whiteboard work, and games. I believe it's really the responsibility of the tutor to understand the student's learning style and adjust the teaching to fit the learning style.
I have tutored students in math and science (mainly math) for over 13 years. I have helped students in various levels of mathematics - basic math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. After working with me on a consistent basis (2/3 days/week) many of the students have received honors in their math courses, including "Most Improved" and "Highest Average".
