Read carefully. Write beautifully. Think critically.

Student centered and humanistic, I seek to find the student's ways of knowing and help them to build from their own starting point. I heavily endorse active reading and listening and value discussion and project-based learning. My ultimate goal is to help students to realize that they are often capable of much more than they give themselves credit.
Over the last 7 years I have been either working with youth or working to make myself a stronger reader, writer, and teacher. My experience includes two years of work as a nanny, during which I was responsible for scheduling activities, providing sound moral guidance, and tutoring my charge in all of her school subjects. While attending Kutztown University in pursuit of an Education degree I took every opportunity to work with high school students. At I-LEAD Charter School in Reading, Pennsylvania, I worked one-on-one with a reading spec ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a strong advocate of public education, I believe in supporting our educational system. I have been told my effectiveness as a substitute teacher was the result of my respect for the students and my unshakable calmness and patience. Even as a sub, I enjoyed encouraging a love of learning in the students and a sense of curiosity. I also believe that each student has the capacity to work toward achievable goals. I continue to be a life-long learner and enjoy the educational environment.
While serving as an adviser to the Peer Counselors team at Woodstock Union High School, I was also a substitute teacher from 1994 to 2001 when I moved to NM. I am a published author at Haworth Press/Taylor Francis Publishers of the book Pastoral Care for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder: Healing the Shattered Soul. I have also been a newspaper editor and received an award from the Massachusetts Press ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored friend's children over the course of several years. I have taught religious studies for over 15 years to youth ages 14. I have worked extensively with children in my various lines of work in the mental health field and foster care. I love teaching and working with children and appreciate that no two children are the same nor do they learn the same way. I'm a strong believer that it's important to teach a child in a manner he/she is comfortable with, whether they pick up a concept quickly or need time.
I hold a degree in Organization & Corporate Communication with a minor in English, Rhetoric/Writing Studies and 14 years experience in public relations throughout my various jobs. Grammar, writing, composition writing, essays, grant writing, are all skills that I excel in. More importantly than any of that is that I enjoy writing and and enjoy reading books on grammar.
