More About This Tutor...

I am a professional case manager who over the past 20 + years has held a variety of positions typical of the non-profit world. I work with the disabled population and have extensive successes working with those living with disabilities that fall under the autism spectrum and down syndrome. I am familiar with writing research papers and I am knowledgeable with the APA and Chicago Style of writing. I love English and the way in which words can create pictures in our minds. I am relocating from New York to Minnesota in the Spring of 2010 and I am thrilled to be given an opportunity to return to my favorite passion of teaching and empowering others to become lifelong learners.
I feel that one of my strengths is my creativity towards learning. Not all people learn in the same manner, therefore my teaching style depends on the person I am working with. Some people learn best through ... read more

My teaching style has evolved over the years to one of guided instruction. My first task is to get to know my student’s strengths, weaknesses, and learning style and proceed from that platform. I am very patient and encourage a respectful bond between my student and me as the tutor. I believe students perform best when they feel comfortable and accepted in the learning setting. That being said, I require and expect my students to complete assigned tasks and approach the tutoring session with a positive, ready-to-learn attitude. I recognize and highlight all successes while, at the same time, working to resolve any struggles and difficulties encountered in learning the subject matter.

Because I was a "non-tradional" student, one with my own children, I knew several things from the start: first and foremost, I will always treat students the way I wish my own children are treated by their teachers. In addtion, I have an understanding that not all children, nor adults, learn the same and need to be offered a variety of experiences. My teaching style is one of a facilitator. I want to be the one delivery the lesson, modeling what our learning targets are, and allowing the students to achieve the goals based on the new information given.
I have taught now for 5 years. 6th grade for 2, 5th grade for 2, and tutored as well as substitute taught for several districts in the area. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a firm believer of the concept "know your audience", as each child may not learn in the same linear fashion. Children need to learn whether via spoken (lectures, slides,) or written word (powerpoint, research journals, quizzes,). I like to believe that the child does have will to learn and needs to find that niche of comfort in order to do so, whether informal group setting or sound strategic goal setting structure.
I have a BS in Speech Communication and MA in Public Administration, while currently pursuing an MBA. I have a very high comfort level in speaking/illustrating to others. My understanding of concepts range from Interpersonal and Organizational Communication/Rhetoric/ Leadership/ Art History and Psycholgy issues like self-esteem. I have a wide array of skill sets for report writing and research papers

A Little Bit About Me...

While studying at SUNY ESF I held a position as a teaching assistant for Western Civilization. This involved grading exams and papers, preparing and giving lectures, and holding office hours to assist students with any questions or concerns they may have had. I also spent time volunteering to teach and after school science club through ESF Outreach for elementary / middle school aged children.
I feel as though every student will have their own niche. They will have a special subject that they enjoy the most and one that they despise. I think that figuring out how the child studies for the subject they enjoy will lead to an understanding of how to motivate that student to learn the subjects that are more difficult for them. Also, if the student's teacher stays positive and pushes him or her towards success by means of positive reinforcement they will succeed.

A Little Bit About Me...

While attending Syracuse University I tutored classmates in both philosophy and English, emphasizing writing and analytical skills while suggesting strategies for breaking down and understanding the difficult language of critical and philosophical texts. Furthermore, I helped students learn and understand effective editing both for content and grammar to improve their argumentation skills for essays and presentations. In addition to tutoring college students, I tutor my five nieces and nephews (informally) who range in age from four years old to thirteen years old. I currently hold a Dual Degree from Syracuse University having graduated Magna Cum Laude.
While I do explain procedures as thoroughly as I am able, I attempt to have students flesh out their ideas through their own process. It is my belief that the student must learn to accomplish things independently in order to ... read more

My teaching style is one on one with students making continuous progress at their own paces. I love to work with elementary students aged ten and under. Working with non-tradionat students was fun and challenging. I had to relate to them differently (of course) from the younger kids.
I taught Office Technology to adults for ten years. I have been subbing K-6 for the past two years in local school districts. Adult educations consisted of computer applications, business math and English, filing, and job search skills. Now I work with kids who have difficulty in a traditional setting.

I am patient and understanding, if students have questions, I will go out of my way to help them grasp the concept. I love teaching, because I think there is always a hard way to learn things and an easy way, it all depends on comprehending the problem FIRST and then approaching it with the most suitable and logical solution which one is comfortable with.
I have worked really hard in my life to acheive the success I am enjoying now. I am originally from India and as many of us are aware India is churning out advanced degree individuals at a lightening pace. The educational system I grew up in was a very hard and intense system compared to the US standards, I personally feel for America to be competetive the education system should improve to competetive levels with countries like India and China. I have complete confidence that all children are able to learn, but I also understand that some children are bored with it. While I was in high school I had a few teachers who put me to sleep. I didn’t learn anything from them, because their teaching style was very dull. I learned that education is what you make of it – learning can be fun! I am patient, easy going, and considerate. Each person has a different style of learning that he or she gravitates toward, and I will discover that unique style for each and run with it. Every child has a right to a sound and complete education, and I will help your child succeed.
I went from a child who didn't enjoy reading to a young adult who finds enjoyment in books. I also recognize how having a passion to read provides that individual with the ability to ultimately obtain a higher position in a career, which in turn allows him or ... read more

Here is Some Good Information About Continuing Education Tutoring

General continuing education is similar to adult education, at least in being intended for adult learners, especially those beyond traditional undergraduate college or university age. However, it is not normally considered to include basic instruction such as literacy, English language skills, or programs such as vocational training or GED preparation. Instead, as the term suggests, it is assumed that the student already has an education and is simply continuing it. Continuing your education? Degree seeking or non degree seeking, a tutor can help.
