College Undergrad Looking to Tutor English Students

While I have never conducted a formal tutoring session, I have edited the work of my peers and more recently assisted my girlfriend's younger sister with the completion of her college essay. From my experience, I have found that I prefer to work one-on-one with the student whose work I am editing. That way, I am able to explain my revisions and help them understand my reasoning behind making certain edits. I'm not, by any means, a hard-nosed individual, but I'll certainly do my best to ensure that the student learns something.
Not only was English my favorite subject as well as the one I was most proficient in in high school, it eventually became my major in college. A Little Bit About Me...

First teaching job was in a school for severely autistic children. After being there for a year I taught in a residential home for boys. This was challenging but probably one of my favorite jobs as a teacher. Because of the distance from home to work (about 1-1/2 hrs.), I applied at an urban school 20 minutes from my home. My first job there was managing the Young Parents Program. This was a program for high school girls who were pregnant or had already had a child. This program allowed the young girls to attend school. Due to budget restrictions it was cut. I was offered a position as a special education teacher in the high school. I have been doing that for the past 15 years. I taught American History, Geography, World History, Government, English, Reading, Reading Intervention and Wilson Reading. Creative Writing is one of my top subjects!

My teaching style is different. I like to teach students in a way that they will understand it. Every student learns differently. I work at the pace that fits there need and teach at there pace. There is no rush.
