My comments on tutoring GED : I have taught Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, and 5th Grade. I am certified K-6th grade. I also taught advanced and Intermediate math and language arts in a GED/HiSet program. I currently teach ESOL/CIVICS for an Adult School.

My teaching philosophy starts out with essentialism which believes in a strong core curriculum and high academic standards. I believe it is important to have a strong foundation on which to build upon. After ensuring a strong foundation I tend to lean more towards progressivism. I believe students should be taught what is relevant today while becoming more independent learners, by utilizing problem solving skills and critical thinking. I teach the foundation and build upon that based upon what is relevant in a particular field today. I also include student-centered teaching strategies. I believe in order to learn a student must have base knowledge of a subject that leads into hands on assignments which require mastery of a subject. A Little Bit About Me...

My goal is to help each child reach his or her potential. The best way to do this, is to first identify the child's learning style. When this is defined, projects should be tailored to fit that style. I prefer to use a hands-on approach to any subject and present each idea being studied in numerous ways.
During the past two years, I have taught Medical Terminology at the college level. Previously, I wrote and presented workshops for early childhood education teachers. Not only did this allow me to teach, it required me to continue my education in all academic areas. I think kids are great. The time I spend coaching a group of teenagers energizes me. I find the key to each child’s personality and try to connect with them individually. I like to joke and have fun with them. My style is casual on the surface but makes for an enjoyable experience.
