My teaching style varies from child to child, depending on the need, but is always warm, supportive, enthusiastic, and ( I hope) fun. I believe that all children want to, and can learn, and that small successes should be celebrated, because I know that struggling learners can start to feel discouraged. I find that sharing my love of reading and learning, along with some humor and lots of positive reinforcement, is a great motivator to keep kids engaged in the process.
I have had many years experience in reading instruction, teaching students ranging in age from pre-school to upper elementary. Most recently (2001-present), I have worked as a Reading Assistant for the Fairbanks School District, mainly instructing small groups of first, second and third graders who need more individual attention than they would get in a large group setting.
