A Little Bit About Me...

I currently work in a PreK-12 School setting as a Certified School Library Media Specialist. I am responsible for teaching Prek-6th grade library/research lessons. When I am not teaching I am monitoring 7-12 students who are utilizing the library media cnter. I manage two library spaces, am the primary purchaser for books, technologies, and databases, and work closely with the administration team to meet and exceed curricular goals. Previously I worked in a K-6 setting with similar responsibilities. While working with on my Masters degree I substitute taught in several of the area school districts. I am active in my school community, participating in several committees and working as the editor in chief for the school's monthly newsletter.

As a mother of three children as well as a graduate of the New York State University school system, I am an avid reader and a natural proof reader. I have earned a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature and have attended classes in Elementary Education toward a Master's Degree. Since April 2007, I have been a substitute teacher at both the Watkins Glen High School and Middle School. Frequent subjects include English, Psychology, and Physical Education. I belong to a writers group which meets at the local library every first and third monday. I belong to a chess club that meets at a coffee shop every Thursday. I also assistant coach varsity and college soccer during the spring and fall seasons.
I believe that education should present as much material to the student as possible, which includes using various textbooks, lecture, and inquiry. After that, it will be up to the student to assess and construct the information given in order to form his/her own opinion about the subject matter. True education and learning is ownership of the subject matter which comes through effort and discipline and a little bit of guidance.

My goal is to instill habits and skill sets in my students that change learning from a laborious, anxiety ridden process to a spontaneous and empowering one. We learn most from our mistakes, and so therefore, there is no such thing as failure.
