I tutored my first subjects many years ago while in college when I tutored Composition I and II, Poetry, and Psychology. I have since tutored many hours in English-related areas. I specialize in English as a Second Language and have taught students from all around the world at a variety of proficiency levels. I believe learning should be fun. I also think its perfectly okay to make mistakes and know that we all do! I try to make all students feel at ease around me and we usually find ourselves laughing as we learn. I assess your skill levels in multiple areas and gear my lessons to your needs. I use measurable assessments so you can see your progress.

A Little Bit About Me...

I try to utilize many different styles of teaching methods as everybody learns information differently. I believe that one will learn more quickly if they are able to do the task themselves rather then watch the task be done. I also believe that we all learn through our own mistakes much faster then trying to learn from anothers mistake.
When I began my college education I declared pre-med as my course of study. Unfortunately, since I had to work to put myself through school, I became burned out my the countless hours of work. When I was no longer having fun in school, I decided to switch majors and declared History. History can be very interesting coursework and also allowed flexibility in further education if I decided to persure more higher education.

I believe that all children learn differently, and if each child identifies the way they learn most effectively, they will be much more successful in their studies. I think it is important to have purposeful learning- give children a real-life understanding of the information they're learning so that it will stay with them in the future. I live by the motto "if you make a difference in one person's life, you've done your job." I hope to help prepare your child for the future by helping them be the best they can now. I love helping others and making learning fun!

I greatly love teaching and anything that enables a child to feel proud about themselves in a positive manner. I believe that there is not one teaching style available to all students. I feel that to truly become an effective teaching, one must get to know each student individually to find out their likes and dislikes. I am an extremely patient person with a huge heart and love for children. I will do everything in my power to enable each child to succeed. I believe that children need to have fun at times in order to learn. I strive to give each child their own tool that is tailored to him/her in order to succeed.

A Little Bit About Me...

During college, I discovered how much I truly enjoyed learning, and that drove me to take every elective course I could fit into my class schedule. I hold a BA in Biology, with a minor in Spanish. Every kid is different in their own special way. You need different tactics per different kid. Being that I am patient and caring I know that it wouldn't take long for them to get comfortable with me and have me assist them. I believe that every good deed should be rewarded and if the student is doing well he shall be treated so, with a possible treat or even a pat on the back. I feel that if a child is told what they are doing right rather than what they are doing wrong they are more likely to have a positive outlook on what task they are trying to accomplish.
As a young college student I understand that my experience doesn't compare to those with degrees and much time doing it. But I know that being an older sister to younger brothers and sisters while helping them with homework and watching them grow up is a type of tutoring. I have been there for all my brothers milestones, whe ... read more

During my time at Concordia College, I was a strong tutor and office manager for the Reading/Writing Center, helping with composition in both English and Spanish. My grammar and usage knowledge is quite extensive, and I love tutoring writing and composition. I've also done quite a lot of tutoring in the ESL environment, as well as tutoring elementary math and reading.
I see my job as that of facilitator: the student is there, the information is there, and the student is the learner. I'm just there to guide, explain, provide details, clarify, relate new information to existing knowledge, etc. The student has to be "in charge," so to speak. I can't force knowledge into someone's mind, it has to be learned, but I can help make that information real and relevant to provide the motivation to learn. I'm very attentive to affective factors (stress, irrelevance, animosity, etc.) that ... read more
