I start off with the student displaying what they know and/or don't know. I give an example and and encourage feedback in order to guage the student's understanding. Finally, I have the student to show their understanding. Sometimes, it may take different methods because people learn differently. I have had over 15 years of tutoring and/or teaching experience. I have worked with different age groups, my preferred and primary being adults. I am currently working on my master’s thesis in mathematics, by which I expect to graduate fairly soon. Teaching has been a desire of mine since I taught math at a local high school for two years. After completing my MS in Mathematics from CSU East Bay, I began tutoring high school students privately. Then, I taught Finite Math, Elementary Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra courses at Faulkner University and at Auburn University Montgomery as an adjunct instructor. This past year I taught high school math, science and Spanish at a Success Unlimited Academy (private). I also tutored K-12 students in math and science. I have successfully worked with autistic as well as children with ADD. I enjoy teaching one-on-one and have found this to be the most effective in regards to my students success. I believe that every student can do well in math but every student has a different pace. I try to adapt to each student's pace/learning style as I explain a new concept.

I am a people person and love to meet new people. I think this helps me in my ways of teaching math. I like to understand how the person learns. That's the beautiful thing about math there are so many ways to learn. After understanding the person it is very easy to teach them. Once the person is comfortable and understand that math isn't hard it is smooth sailing from there. I started tutoring when I was in high school. I have always been good in math. After high school I tutored students in my class and also students in high school. I attended Central Alabama Community College and before going to Troy I helped teach a pre-cal based physics class. Even since I've graduated from Troy I have help tutor younger students. I get great joy by doing this.

After High School, I taught Sunday School at the small church I attended. I was co-teacher with an older gentleman, and the students were 12-15 years old. When my wife and I lived in Seymour (2002-2004), we often helped our nephews with their math homework or class Science projects. I loved explaining the basics, the steps required as we conducted the experiments and documented results in a logical, orderly progression of events. Our oldest nephew struggled with Algebra and geometric reasoning. When in Seymour, I could teach him one-on-one, and especially enjoyed using sketches to drive home geometrical concepts. 1) I like to help the student define our goal: "What is it we are trying to achieve?" 2) "How do we get there?" During my Sophomore Year at College of Charleston I worked in the Math Lab tutoring all levels of classical mathematics up to Calculus III. I happened to be the only tutor who checked a box saying I could help high school students, and therefore worked with every family who called the college looking for a math tutor. After that year had a very large math tutoring business on the side, and over the last 10 years I have privately tutored mathematics and offered SAT and ACT Prep services at many of the finest academic institutions in Charleston, SC. I can teach with or without a textbook.
