My comments on tutoring Typing Skills : I adapted a curriculum on how to learn how to type and to become proficient on the computer.

My teaching philosophy starts out with essentialism which believes in a strong core curriculum and high academic standards. I believe it is important to have a strong foundation on which to build upon. After ensuring a strong foundation I tend to lean more towards progressivism. I believe students should be taught what is relevant today while becoming more independent learners, by utilizing problem solving skills and critical thinking. I teach the foundation and build upon that based upon what is relevant in a particular field today. I also include student-centered teaching strategies. I believe in order to learn a student must have base knowledge of a subject that leads into hands on assignments which require mastery of a subject. I am currently a student at the university of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where I am majoring in early childhood education with a minor in speech pathology. I am working full time as the head aftercare teacher at hickory valley Christian school where I work with elementary school children. I have much experience in teaching, I am also a current tutor with the Honors program, working with four students ranging from 5th grade to freshman in college. I am more for for the elementary age child, but I can help in anyway when it comes to school. I feel school is the first and main priority because it is what gets you where you need to be in life.

My personal style varies on the pupil. These may vary from simply being frustrated with the curriculum to a myriad of influences. My style is considered out of the box, meaning that if the standard method does not "click" with him/her, then I enjoy finding something of interest to them, to relate that to the subject at hand. Keeping a students interest is paramount to keep them enthusiastic about learning.
Along with a Bachelor's Degree in Business, I have many educational experiences in the area of science, math, history (to name a few). And in all levels of the educational process; from elementary through high school and even collegiate. My previous experience has included high school students and many college undergrads.

I have earned a bachelors degree in Chemistry from East Tennessee State University. I have more than 100 hours of volunteer experience in all fields of area due to being in organizations like Alpha Phi Omega, Phi Sigma Pi and President's Pride throughout my college career. I believe I'm qualified to teach computers because I use it everyday and know basically most of all the Microsoft Office. English/LA and Social Studies probably not as qualified but I know the basics, if I did not I would not have a Bachelor's degree right now.
