Calculus I is one of my top subjects!

Throughout my life, I have enjoyed doing mathematics. It has been my strongest subject since grade school. In middle school and high school I was consistently one of the top students in my mathematics courses. In college i took 3 semesters of Calculus (I, II, and III), 2 semesters of Probability and Statistics (I and II) and College Algebra along with some more advanced courses. I am a 2012 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Chemistry and concentration in Biochemistry. I have worked as a TA for the sophomore Principles of Biology (II) course as well as the Organic Chemistry Laboratory Course. I have been a tutor & academic mentor for Organic Chemistry since the summer of 2010. Additionally, I was an MCAT tutor & problem solving group leader for my University's MCAT course during the 2011-2012 year. I do have a preferred teaching style, but I will accommodate the student’s preferences. My preferred teaching style is to guide students, not lecture or do their homework for them. Your ability to learn material will be greatly increased by exposure to critical decision making steps as you work problems. I will guide students to these steps as efficiently as possible and wait for a rigorous effort from the student. This will result in either a correct approach or an inappropriate or incorrect approach. After that point I then congratulate the student for a correct answer, or thank them for their effort and try to break down the decision making process so that they can learn from the experience and gain a real understanding of the problem.

I have earned a bachelors degree in Chemistry from East Tennessee State University. I have more than 100 hours of volunteer experience in all fields of area due to being in organizations like Alpha Phi Omega, Phi Sigma Pi and President's Pride throughout my college career. I always find myself trying to lead others to figure out material on their own as a I set guidelines for them as they do so. I believe this is the best way for them to learn the material. I do not like to tell my students the answers, inhibiting them from thinking things through. I try to find different ways of teaching material in order to keep them motivated, as well.
I am a recent graduate of kennesaw State University, with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology.
