I am a recently returned Peace Corps volunteer from Panama, where I became fluent in Spanish through training and day-to-day professional and non-professional interactions. Prior to this, I took Spanish throughout college and high school, and participated in several study abroad programs to hone my Spanish skills. While in the Peace Corps, I tutored high-school and middle-school students in English.
My teaching style is student driven. I like to see the student take charge of their own learning, and assist them to achieve their own goals. Making the learning session interactive makes a world of difference in teaching a language, and I find that incorporating play-acting into a learning session excites and motivates the student. Using the list of vocabulary words and rules of grammer the student is currently in the process of learning, I like to create a scenario with the student, stand up and walk away from the table, and pretend that we are actually at the dentist, the grocery store, etc. I also like to use topics that relate to the student's age and environment, thereby make the language 'real' to them.

I was the salutatorian of my high school class. I excelled in every subject, and was a member of the tutoring club. I also tutored my cousin, who has Down Syndrome, helping him with his summer school work, including literature, handwriting, math, and Spanish. I majored in Art at the Pennsylvania State University. I also took many different courses in Art and Art History, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography.
My teaching style is very versatile. I think the best way to teach is to first assess the areas that need the most work, and then devise a simple, logical approach to help the student understand the material. Some students learn visually, others learn by repetition. It takes a lot of adaptation to make sure the student really grasps the ideas.
