After achieving a bachelors of mathematics from Kent State University, I obtained a long-term substitute teaching certificate in integrated mathematics grades 7-12. I taught in an alternative school for more than a year from 2008-2009. In addition, I obtained employment in a traditional school for the remaining six weeks of the 2009-2010 school year. I was responsibile for the full duties as a certified teacher including lesson planning.
I believe that children learn in a variety of ways and teachers are responsible for providing this variety. I like many teachers, have a constructivist approach. I like to teach using examples, either on a board to show a person step by step first. Then try to give the student examples to try to solve themselves. If this does not work I continue to breakdown a problem until we can clearly identify where the student is having trouble.
I have helped tutor friends’ kids on math from little school to high school. I have taken math all the way up to Differential equations and feel alright tutoring up to calculus one.
