I have had 22 years total of tutoring experience, worked for six different supplemental educational services tutoring providers, worked for three different online tutoring companies, and have eleven years of experience as an ESL Teacher. I graduated with an MA in English (TESOL), and a BA in English Composition (writing). I have had a successful career as an English Instructor. I love helping students. With my strong, positive feelings towards higher education, I believe every student should take pride in their studies and enjoy the material; and educational material can only be enjoyed if it is understood! I honestly believe that students need to put in the effort to learn themselves. If there isn't a basis of knowledge to go on (whether understood or not), the student would not benefit from tutoring. A tutor's job is not to TEACH the student, it is to help the student understand the material that has been taught and/or read. My students often say I can’t be a teacher because they “just get it" when I explain. Even so, my degree is in math and I've taught professionally and privately. I have a history of maintaining high scores and would rather show why something works than how to follow steps. I don't expect students to love math or do it "my way" but I want students to know math isn't scary.
