A Little Bit About Me...

I know firsthand that great teachers make great students. It took several years to discover my learning style because I had to find it on my own. I want to be able to help students find their own learning style. I believe that subjects are best learned when broken down, and repetition is key. I also believe practice makes perfect. I know that a student needs to know the basics first, then can move on to more complex ideas.
In earning my bachelors of science degree at the University of South Carolina Aiken, I gained a true love for biology. I excelled in entry-level biology classes, as well as higher-level science classes such as ecology and evolution. I am also proficient in writing, English, and math. During my college career, I have tutored mostly in sciences and math.

A Little Bit About Me...

Because I have tutored adults, children as young as four, and all ages in between in a range of subjects, I have a very accommodating teaching style. I know how important it is to adapt teaching techniques not only to age, but also to students' backgrounds. My past experiences have made me comfortable teaching students of all ages and from a variety of ethnic, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds. I am flexible and understand that everyone has a different way of learning a concept or idea. Being patient, friendly, and considerate are qualities I find are especially helpful in making me a great tutor.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all children have the potential to learn and am a strong advocate of customized teaching. I am so drawn to the mathematics and sciences because I learn from working through problems and finding methods to solve them. When I tutor I tend to emphasize to the student to find a study method that works for them and adapt it to whatever they need to learn. I try to suggest to the student options for solving a problem and letting them discover the way they understand the best.
As a student throughout high school and college I have enjoyed learning and often joke with my friends that I would go to school forever if I could. I have earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Chemistry at a very academic and research oriented school.
