Reading is one of my top subjects! I teach reading comprehension skills and have skills to apply for any student who has less than grade level achievement up to highly proficient readers.

I have taught for many years in all levels of secondary school, alternative schools, and tutoring centers.I eat, sleep, and drink tutoring as I tutor every day during the school year and do lots of research to help my kids in whatever academic subject is causing them difficulty. I began my teaching career for the first five years as a high school English teacher and taught regular college prep English courses. The next five years I taught English at the middle school level.Next, I got married and resigned from teaching when our first child was born. For the next twenty!!years, I raised four children and tutored kids sporadically. After all the kids had entered school, I began substituting in our school district and substituted everyday in the high schools and middle schools. My comments on tutoring Reading : I have taught Reading for thirty years in various grades from Kindergarten to sixth grade.

I use a combination of both online games and Websites and hands-on manipulatives. First, I like for the student to take multiple intelligence tests and then I know how best to help the student. The information I gain from the analysis is extremely informative. It tells me where the students' strengths lie such as some students are musically inclined, some are visual learners, auditory learners, some are mathematicians and various other styles. Then, the style that they learn through the best is how I would teach the student; this is based on Gardner's Multiple Intelligence. Second, meeting the standards are essential in today's education system. The four C's of the 21st century is also necessary for students' to learn. They are collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity.
I have tutored in both Robeson County and Cumberland County for a total of six years. I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I was employed as a Writing Tutor at my university, giving me the experience necessary to know how to direct and assist peers on an individual level. To obtain this position, it was required that I show a high level of proficiency in the field, both with my major GPA and the quality of my writing portfolio. Further along this line, I graduated from Susquehanna University with both a degree in Creative Writing and considerable experience in the writing and publishing world. I have worked in detail on the design and development of numerous journals, magazines, and chapbooks and have a keen eye written detail and quality.
I always tried to keep my approach as grounded as possible so that even my least talented tutees could grasp the task at hand. For instance, I feel it important to always sound out the words on a page, making sure the words flow smoothly off the tongue and not just ... read more

My lessons are creative and are formed in alignment with the PA standards to provide my students with significant progress in the classroom. As my teaching career continues, I am becoming more flexible in my teaching strategies for example, when it comes down to having two or three subjects to teach in one period, I still manage to make it a great learning environment for all. I have taught high school in three different countries: Germany, UK and USA. I am passionate about foreign languages and social studies, and I care about my students. It is my intention to broaden their horizons and help them reach their potential as students and as human beings.
I believe in constructivism. Students learn more when they make their own learning. They need to see the real world application of the material and how it applies to them. I try to create tasks that are hands-on, use authentic materials, and encourage students to collaborate with others and think outside of the box.

A Little Bit About Me...

As one who holds a Bachelor's and Master's in the arts, I believe in the power of exploratory learning. However, as one who has spent considerable time working in computers and networking, I value the attainment of hard knowledge. When the two are combined according to a student's particular learning modality(ies), then learning become meaningful and accelerated. In my professional career I was largely self-taught. My success depended upon my ability to learn new concepts based upon my current knowledge set, and to continue growing on that basis. I would ask nothing less from any student of mine.
