My style is easy to get along with. I am friendly with my students but am able to keep the boundaries of the teacher student relationship in play at all times. I do not believe in giving students answers but rather leading them towards a natural discovery of the answers on their own.
I have been teaching in different areas and capacities for three years now. I started by teaching English to Korean students in Daegu, South Korea. Here I taught all different skill levels and ages. When I returned to the United States I began working at Sylvan Learning Center. I was responsible for running the center. Here I was trained in many of the Sylvan Learning methodologies and feel very comfortable in identifying obstacles that hinder a students progression. At which time I incorporate learning strategies that help them get over the "hump"

Socratic- I encourage questions, challenges, am willing and happy to look things up with students, know I do not know everything and enjoy revising my own knowledge as I go. Current knowledge changes continuously, and a day in which I learn something myself is a good one.
Have tutored in multiple subjects (math, French, physics, MCAT, etc) since college. Served as adjunct faculty to Indiana School of Medicine and St Vincent Fam Med residency from 1993-2005. I have learned that the best way to teach is to let the student know how much you enjoy the subject and then work to make them feel the same way. I also know that you cannot predict what methods will be best for all people. I prepare extensivesly with sample tests, worksheets, as well as fun learning activities. When it comes to the tutoring session, I am not uptight about my style, I can sense when a method is or is not working and then use any or all of the methods that help the student retain the knowledge. A Little Bit About Me...

I like to have a relationship with the students I tutored where they feel comfortable with me; I want them to be able to tell me the problems they're having with the work and what I can do to help. I like to be friendly with them while still being an authority figure where they want to do their best. I think this type of relationship allows me to push the students to their maximum limit without discouraging them when we're having a difficult session.
