I develop individualized lesson plans. Ten years ago my student was a Chinese man who spoke Mandarin at home and did not have a job where verbal English was demanded of him. I taught him all the words for objects inside the house, how to navigate inside a grocery store, how to use the yellow pages phone book, and eventually helped him successfully study for the US Citizenship test. My last student (2008) was an adult male from Mexico who came to the U.S. for work. His education level was less than 8th grade, and his speaking skills and ability to sound out words was elementary-school level.
