Social Studies is one of my top subjects! I teach psychology at a a community college and have my teaching degree in social science and political science.

I have my BA in social science and a Master's in counseling. I have been in the field of education for twenty years. I have taught in mostly middle and high school and am currently teaching psychology at Mid Michigan Community College. I have worked with youth in many different capacities. I have worked with 4-H, public schools, college, and volunteered in many areas. I am dedicated to and passionate about education and the process of learning. I have good realtionships with my students and they trust that I have their best interests at hand. While I understand that learning is serious, it should also be fun. My teaching style would be to find the student's primary learning style and converting the information he or she needs into a format that fits that learning style. Each subject would be made as visible or concrete as possible, so that the student could interact with the material on more than just a visual/conceptual level. Showing the student how the material can relate to real-life situations and opportunities would be a vital part of the instruction.
After high school, I recognized in myself a desire to work with elementary- and high school-aged children. For the past 30 years, I have worked with special needs students. I believe that students learn at their educational level. The problem with education today, is that students are often in classrooms that stress learning at their frustration level. Many students are in general ed settings, but are forced to use materials that they do not fully understand. In my role as a teacher consultant, I adapted materials so the students could understand it. If chosen as a tutor, I would do the same so the students would learn at their education level.
