My comments on tutoring Algebra II : I am taking technical math in college. Algebra knowledge is required for technical math.

I was born in the upper west side of Mexico City in 1996. I attended a private bilingual school (Colegio Cumbres) from kindergarten to my junior year. While I was attending high school in Mexico, I also took two courses a literature course and a course in reading comprehension and writing composition proficiency given by UAEM (Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico). I also earned some extra cash when I decided to become an English to Spanish and Spanish to English translator. I took this job as an independent translator. I started learning English when I was seven years old. I have two certificates in English awarded by Cambridge University which are, PET (Preliminary English Test) and FCE (First Certificate in English). My senior year I was a foreign exchange student in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. Williams Bay is roughly fifteen minutes away from Elkhorn. I attended Williams Bay High ... read more

Algebra II is one of my top subjects!

I developed my passion for teaching others from a a pre-college program I was in called Upward Bound. I learned study skills, time management and other skills that helped me excel in college. After college graduation,i obtained a tutoring position with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.I served as a mentor as well guiding them through the difficulties of high school and applying for college and financial aid. My next position was for Admission Possible. Admission Possible is a non profit organization whose main purpose is to get low income students into college. I held after school workshops where I taught them how to apply for scholarships, write high quality essays and how to put together a good resume.
I believe the best way for students to learn is by doing and discovering the material hands on as oppose to being lectured to. I like to instruct demonstrate the learning mater ... read more

I find that demonstration though example is the first step to understanding. This allows for an initial exposure to the material and plants seeds of knowledge. Adjuvant to demonstration, motivation and enthusiasm to learn the material must be taught. All the homework in the world cannot replace this! Regrettably, students often struggle due to poor instruction or vague textbooks which erode a student’s motivation. Fortunately this can be overcome with a little outside assistance. My long term goal of teaching is to foster a mature understanding of the subject matter. To master a subject it must be learned from multiple angles before the bigger picture is illuminated. Once a subject is illuminated it must be continually revisited for long-term retention.
To me education is a way of life. My academic career has been driven by a thirst for knowledge. I have earned a B.S. in Bi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience working with a wide range of students, from K-12, as well as special needs. My specialty is microbiology, and have received a degree in cell biology from Marquette University. I have learned how to discipline myself when it comes to learning, and have been able to use that to help other students of all ages. I also volunteered this past semester tutoring at a Milwaukee Public School for second grade in reading and writing.
I love working with students and have excellent patience and communication skills. I also like to think of creative ways to help students learn if they are not understanding. I have found that the method of facilitating rather than dictating to be a highly beneficial style of teaching. I have learned that if students construct their own learning experiences they will not only retain information longer, but they will become more confident in ... read more
