There are many arrays of learning styles. I personally use visually, writing, and seeing the bigger picture. First, the mind can develop a concept or help map out the ideas by seeing the picture to the learning task. Second writing helps to reinforce the concept or idea. As an educator, especially in mathematics, I want my students to not just arrive at the right answer, but understand the process, as well. I want students to have a solid foundation in number theory. I also want them to see the connection between the more elementary levels of mathematics and the more abstact higher levels. I usually spend some time and effort working on the organizational skills of the student, especially if I notice a weakness there. Many times the lack of those organizational skills becomes a detriment to math problem solving. Since I have been coaching, I knew that I wanted to continue with passing on my knowledge to others. I believe that through teaching the passing of my knowledge can be most rewarding. Although I have worked with students in various fields and of various ages, I get the most satisfaction from watching a student succeed from diligent hard work and personal commitment to learning the task at hand.
