I am a very laid-back, out going person but I never stray from the main goal at hand. I strive to help educate children the best way possible, and would like to make a difference in their life. My education growing up was very positive, and going to a smaller school enabled me to have one on one contact with my educators. To me, learning is best exemplified by an engaged and interested student asking informed and critical questions of the material assigned. I believe that students are more apt to achieve such education in a relaxed atmosphere. As the instructor, I may know more than the student(s), but this does not necessarily imply that I am the more insightful or intelligent person. Therefore, I encourage my student(s) to question myself and their peers, to not accept history at face value, and to not view historical study as a series of “facts” that are dictated to passive students as “truth.” My role as teacher is that of facilitator; I am there to provide the historical context and skills necessary for generating such critical assessments.
