A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate student at Central Washington University, I was self motivated and involved in various activities. I have earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Sociology and BA in Law and Justice. In addition to these two broad areas of studies, I am a McNair Scholars recipient and conducted graduate level research. I have mentored and advised students as an employee in student affairs and as a Teacher's Assistant in the Law and Justice Department. During the last 5 years I have tutored students in Sociology, psychology, philosophy and basic grammar skills.
I enjoy teaching all age groups. I especially like working with High School students.Initially, they can be quite a challenge to work with, but once they are engaged they are fully immersed in the topic! A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy finding the teaching style that works best for each individual learner. Learning is a collaborative effort, and all individuals do not learn alike. I am patient with frustration, calm under pressure, and am able to create a positive learning experience especially for those who have experienced frustration or failure in the past.
I returned to college in my mid-40s to complete a Bachelor's degree, majoring in Biology, minoring in Chemistry and Pre-professional Studies. This enabled me to attain competent understanding of not only the hard science classes, but also to experience writing and presentation skills at the professional level. I love to see students grasp a new concept and revisit their work with greater pride and confidence as a result. Realizing we all learn in differing rates and manners, I find great satisfaction in teaching in several ways at the same time (e.g., varying visual and auditory cues, telling stories and providing mnemonic devices). Having worked with issues such as ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia, I recognize and address learning challenges with patience, courtesy, respect -- and optimism.
