Elementary Grammar is one of my top subjects!

I taught elementary school in the 4-J School District. I later returned to graduate school at Portland State University for an MA to teach English as a Second Language and taught ESL to immigrants at Lane Community College. While living in Montana for a few years, I taught phonics, reading, and math with small groups of children in the Title One program in the Eureka Public Schools. Most recently I taught English to international students at the American English Institute at the University of Oregon.
I am very patient, encouraging, and supportive. I start with what students know and build from there, selecting appropriate materials to provide practice and continued learning.

My experience has taken me across grade levels as well as across the world. In college, I studied educational methods, theories and philosophies as well as human development. During this time, I participated in classroom practicums (aiding with individual/ small group instruction) and then eventually student taught full-time for 1st and 5th grade. Over the summers, I worked abroad in Germany and Italy with children on military bases for a program called Camp Adventure Youth Services. I provided educational and recreational services for children and youth from ages 5-11.
