Economics is one of my top subjects! I had a concentration in Economics during my MBA program

I have spent my whole adult life working in the field of accounting and finance. I am a life long learner and believe in the power of education. I have been a CEO and COO of a publicly traded bank and am now employed as a VP of Project Management which gives me the flexibility to pursue teaching and tutoring. I am a licensed CPA in the State of Florida. I also teach accounting online for Rasmussen College.
In accounting, finance and economics I believe using real life examples is a better way to get a student to understand principles. However, I do recognize that all students do have different learning styles and it is my job to adapt my methods to the manner in which a student learns best.

I Will Meet You Where You Are!

I believe every student can learn! School was never meant to be a struggle, an effort yes, but not a struggle!
Hello! I have 15 years of teaching experience in the classroom and have been tutoring now since January of 2012. I have a true passion for teaching! I have taught in the parochial, private, and public schools. I taught at Assumption Catholic School from 1997-2004, English and Reading to 6th-12th grade ESE students at The Broach School from 2004-2008, and Intensive Reading to 11th and 12th graders at Andrew Jackson High School (public inner city urban in Duval County) from 2010-2011. I have also conducted FCAT, ACT, and SAT prep, as well as study skills in the summer months when students don't have schoolwork! More About This Tutor...

I graduated from UNF in 1993 with a Bachelor's of Business Administration in the field of Management. The degree required classes in Accounting, Finance, Algebra and Economics. Mathematics has risen to be one of my preferred subjects, tutoring this subject for a year to date.
I do believe that all children have the ability to learn the subjects however not all children are in the right mind to do so. My goal is to show in real world, understandable terms the subjects we will work on. I believe that if a child is explained the rules in terms and words he/she understands, then he/she will grasp the material and carry it with them into the future rather than trying to cram for an exam with no retention.

A Little Bit About Me...

After sub teaching the last couple of years I have found most kids want to learn but need a lot of "structure". If their personal "structure" isn't there it is difficult for them. This is also true for kids who are advanced. I believe in no cell phones, electronic devices, and trying to figure out what each child strengths and weaknesses are and then use those strengths to help them learn. I am not against having background music playing during homework time because it doesn't bother other children. It is a problem however in the classroom.

I took Spanish throughout elementary, middle, and high school. I then took two Spanish courses in college. I've travelled to Latin America on four occasions and did fieldwork for my MA dissertation in Spanish. My level of spoken and written Spanish is high enough for tutoring at lower to intermediate levels. I spent 10 months in Brussels, Belgium. While living there I shared a flat with two native French speakers. I also took private French lessons for 5 months. I was also able to carryout day to day activities such as getting/giving directions, shopping at the grocery store, and going to the laundromat using my French. My French skills are strong enough for tutoring only at the most basic levels.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had a gift with teaching. I have conducted many training programs with the companies I have worked. I have taught college level management courses with Keiser University in Daytona. I am very gifted in Math and have tutored several students to assist them in understanding the importance of math in the real world.
I am a believer in the old adage,” You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.” I believe that it‘s the instructor’s job to try to motivate the student to learn the subject. The instructor need to teach the student that the information is important and worth the student’s time. If the student is not motivated to learn then the session will not be as productive.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that an instructor’s primary role is to create an environment that encourages a real desire to learn by presenting the subject matter in a way that is interesting to the student and by striving to make it make it relevant to their lives. It is my role as an instructor to take abstract concepts and breathe life into them and make them real to the student. I think that it is important to understand and be constantly aware that different people learn in different ways. Because of this, I feel that it is important that an instructor uses a wide range of teaching methods in order to give each student the best opportunity to learn and understand the material.

A Little Bit About Me...

Many years as a camp couselor have instilled a drive to help students achieve academic and altheltic excellence that has stayed true to this day. It is so important that a student get the instruction needed that lets them learn and process the information in a way that channels success. I noticed later on that my individual style of learning included more repetition and it was up to me to make sure I focused on this. At the end of the day it's about helping children work hard and when they get it and realize they get it, it's a wonderful thing.
Before moving on to Graduate School, I was fortunate to spend some time as a teacher’s aid for a private school that focused on students with a wide variety of learning deficiencies. A Little Bit About Me...

Formal experience: I have been an instructed or facilitated annual training sessions for the security releated jobs for the past 3 years with the US Navy. Every summer my office would hold training sessions where we would teach/publish updates to policy. We would teach these updates, sometimes with a formal test to verify completion, and award them with graduation certificates. Sometimes the training would be informational only, in this case the updates to policy would be taught and personal experiences would be shared but no graduation certificates would be awarded, only completion/attendance certificates would be granted.
Informal teaching style: Throughout my time with the Navy one is constantly training one’s replacement for a specific job. This challenges a person, to find the proper learning style for each person. Unfortunately not everyone learns at the same pace, ... read more
