I first started teaching in 2003 as a substitute to supplement the income from my guiding business during the slower portion of the year. After showing that I was very capable in the classroom and could quickly develop a strong rapport with coworkers and students, I was hired for the year when another teacher left unexpectedly. I went to school for the next year at the University of Kentucky, did not finish my degree, but earned enough credits to be hired by to teach in their Alternative School. I taught and was a leader and innovator at Cropper Alternative School for the next five years, until I decided to move to this part of the country after a recent divorce. I graduated cum laude from the University of California, Irvine with a BA in history and minors in biology and psychology. Earning a history degree required me to write several essays, including a thirty-page research paper, and this experience made me a better writer (and eventually, a better teacher). A Little Bit About Me...

I look at each student as an individual. I think it is important to determine which teaching style works for that person. I would use this information to choose the best method for each student. I think it is important to make learning fun at every age. Education should not be a chore but something to embrace. It would be one of my goals to limit fears or mental blocks that a student may have because they think they can't do it. I would focus on each students potential for success.
I have worked with children age 0 to 17 over the years. I tutored my daughters friends when she was in High School in History and some English especially literacy. As a recent college graduate, I was motivated to study Physics because I find the fundamental nature of the physical world fascinating. In addition to my B.S. in Physics, I also minored in Religious Studies and this course of study has enabled me to understand and communicate with people from a variety of different backgrounds. When I wasn’t in class I spent nearly 3 years doing particle physics research for CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, which I would work at in Geneva Switzerland during the summer. I have tutored math, biology and chemistry for the last 5 years at a college level. In math, I tutored up to the trigonometry level, as well as holding math seminars lasting as long as 2 weeks. I worked for over 2 years as a study session leader for various engineering courses while getting my B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
