My comments on tutoring Russian : I studied Russian at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California and I really enjoy speaking and writing this language!

I have 12 years experience working with the Russian language. I spent two years in school learning the language and then 10 years in the field using it! I spent 3 years in Spain working with the Russian language as a Russian analyst. I also gained invaluable experience working on Naval vessels and intercepting live Russian language from Russian/Soviet Naval ships. This experience was invaluable. During my two (2) years in school, Russian is the only subject we took. I studied 4 hours a night and ended up graduating with honors from the course in Monterey, Ca. From there, I was sent to Goodfellow AFB, in San Angelo, Tx. There I studied the military version of the Russian language. I also did very well at that school. I then gained another 10 years of experience with the Russian language with the U.S. Navy intelligence.

Consider the following scenario: Anne is taking German 101. She loves German, however has failed two of her midterms, subsequently she asked for my help. So I introduced myself to Anne and assured her that German is easy and she was capable of passing her upcoming exam. The next step I used, was to determine her learning style, I did this by asking questions about her preferences to learning. I determined that she was an auditory learner there for we made audio tape of our tutoring sessions and Anne was able to achieve her goal of passing her exam.
