I have worked with different levels of mental health and emotional maturity for several years. I have spent much of my spare time working within the community at youth centers, soup kitchens and veteran administration homes. I feel that working with many different types and levels of human functioning has enabled me to be more able to adjust my teaching and assisting styles to better serve my community.
Each person learns at an individual pace. I use the Gardner system of multiple intelligences to facilitate individual learning style. I do not believe something is impossible to learn, or unteachable. Patience is a moral and ethic rule with my personal professional style.

Although my degree and early experience is in journalism, I have spent 16 years teaching middle school English. During that time I taught English Language Arts, Journalism, and TV Production. I have always nurtured a love for English literature, both in myself and in my students. In addition, my experience as a reporter and freelance writer gives me deeper insight into the artistry of written English.
I believe that learning comes from a good rapport between teacher and student. I like to make students feel at ease, and then progress is achieved in the context of a safe learning environment. Rather than taking an authoritarian approach, I prefer to act as a kindly mentor and facilitator of students' learning processes.
